Gamedev Beatdown
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Live through the life of a developer in Gamedev Beatdown.
Have you ever wondered what goes behind the scenes of games that you love or whose names you never got to hear?
Have you ever been in a meeting that felt more like a war room? With the loudest voice winning arguments and deciding what decision gets implemented?
Play as a member of a team, making some hard and some not so hard decisions. If you win, your choices get implemented. Lose, and your game and studio might head in a direction you did not sign up for.
Work your way up from arcade-style games to full-fledged AAA releases. Once you start your journey as an Indie developer, move to new studio locations and hire the right people as you work your way up in the industry. There's a lot to handle, but you've got this. It was your dream, after all.
Did we tell you how Game Development wasn't easy?
- Decision Making - Back decisions of different departments on day to day issues.
- Management - Manage Employee Happiness and tactical Crunch times for maximized productivity.
- Procedural rogue-lite progression.
- Deep Combat (Allegedly) - Persistent stress tolerance (health) between projects. Think long term instead of battle to battle.
- Exotic Locations - Move to different locations that unlock some unique games to develop.
- Choices and Consequences - Fight over real, real-adjacent, and a few entirely fabricated day-to-day problems game developers face.
- Evolving Mini-games - Play the games you release as mini-games that look better and/or unlock functionality with higher stats on release.

Took some time but I finally get to post my video. Things went pretty smoothly, no game-breaking bugs! Yay! Can't wait for the full release. :)
That was a great video! We should add more variations sooner for the abilities and some wrenches to mess with shields, you mostly breezed through combat!
Tried the demo today and I got two issues that may be related. The first problem was I got to the 2X event in the tutorial and no event would start, clicking on the 2X circle just brought the whole screen from 'background' to main view...
Basically I was stuck at this point, in the screenshot. Alright, so I thought, let's reset all progress. The tracked remained the same, the game stats reset and I had to play through all previous events, and the tracker then progressed to shipping the game.
Started Act 1 and after going through 3 events the tracker went back to this one in the screenshot and I couldn't move forward with Act 1. Exiting the game and then choosing to continue got me back to the proper Act 1 tracker.
Wish me luck for when I record, hopefully this issue won't happen. :)
Hey! Thanks for playing! For the first one it looks like a bug I am tracking where for some people coming back from an event the map is not updated / refreshed. While I attempt to reproduce it for good, an easy workaround if you notice the map is on the same node as the one you played is to switch to any another tab, staff/you/budget and come back to progress tracker, that refreshes the map, or for that matter even clicking on the progress tracker header area (the are with the game name, not the graph) to focus on just the map (it pops out the progression area to the front).
For the second issue, I believe what happened is you ended up viewing the previous project’s progress, you can do that by using the scroll wheel / button 4-5 on mouse / arrows on the keyboard. It used to be more useful to see your previous project stats in an earlier version, now I am considering just removing it due to the confusion it causes.
